Promotion comes rapidly to many of our teachers, and we believe that middle and senior managers also need support if they are to contribute effectively to raising standards. We have developed a mix of school-based support and central courses, providing high-quality support to all staff. Our remit encompasses support and advice in:

• Teaching and learning
• Curriculum planning and delivery
• Meeting the needs of different groups of pupils in our inclusive LA
• Assessment, monitoring of pupil’s progress and target setting
• Leadership management, including school self-evaluation.
• In addition, every school can call on its own link advisor for support.

We have taken advantage of the Advanced Skills Teacher Scheme, and the majority of our Secondary schools now have at least one AST. An increasing number of Primary schools are becoming involved in the scheme.
