Most secondary schools work with the University of East London and the Institute of Education for the GTP. Candidates must secure the support of a school before applying. Most schools prefer to already know candidates before agreeing to support them. This is usually via previous employment or longstanding volunteer relationships.

Eligibility criteria

• A UK bachelors degree or equivalent in a relevant subject*
• GCSE grade C or above in Mathematics and English.
If you intend to teach key stage 2/3 (ages 7-14), you must also have achieved a standard equivalent to a grade C in a GCSE Science subject.*
• Have recent and relevant experience of working in an inner city school, preferably Newham.
• Can demonstrate that they have the potential to teach in a diverse, exciting environment, committed to raising educational achievement.

*Qualifications gained overseas must be accompanied by NARIC certification. Please see www.naric.org.uk

Providers stipulate a 2.2 degree or above, as a minimum requirement.
