Most secondary schools work with the University of East London and the Institute of Education for
the GTP. Candidates must secure the support of a school before applying. Most schools prefer to already know candidates
before agreeing to support them. This is usually via previous employment or longstanding volunteer relationships.
Eligibility criteria
- A UK bachelors degree or equivalent in a relevant subject*
- GCSE grade C or above in Mathematics and English.
If you intend to teach key stage 2/3 (ages 7-14), you must also
have achieved a standard equivalent to a grade C in a GCSE Science subject.*
- Have recent and relevant experience of working in
an inner city school, preferably Newham.
- Can demonstrate that they have the potential to teach in a diverse,
exciting environment, committed to raising educational achievement.
*Qualifications gained overseas must be accompanied by NARIC certification.
